Gila Valley Learning Center
The Gila Valley Learning Center is an alternate pathway to educational success and offers an experienced and dedicated staff. It is a new school within the Pima Unified School District, designed to help students achieve success both at school and beyond. The learning center is based on programs in place around the state that have used flexibility to create a new pathway to learning.
Students enrolled in this program will have access to the same benefits that the district offers:
Athletics
GIFT
Seminary
Advanced courses
The Gila Valley Learning Center is committed to providing students with a quality education. The only difference between the education students receive at the traditional high school versus the learning center is the presentation of the material.
Our Arizona Tax Credit Request is now available. Please feel free to take a look, and print it out.
How Does the Program Work?
The Gila Valley Learning Center utilizes sophisticated educational software to deliver the material for which students are responsible. In return, the students are responsible for completing courses on a predetermined schedule that ensures they have the credits necessary for graduation.
The Gila Valley Learning Center employs the leading educational software in the nation. Through this software, we provide courses that mirror those offered in the traditional high school. Students learn through a combination of text-based material and multi-media content.
Courses Offered
The Gila Valley Learning Center offers two education platforms, credit recovery and original credit. We define credit recovery as a course the student has previously attempted but for which they did not earn credit. Students take a ten-question pretest. A 70% or better, and the system moves the student to the next pretest. A pretest score of less than 70% and the system gives the student that lesson. Students then complete the lesson and are moved to the next pretest.
We use the Edgenuity SIS system is for original credit courses. Original credit courses are courses that the student has never attempted before. The Edgenuity SIS system provides access to highly qualified teachers via email, chat, and scheduled video chat. Students must complete the entire course to receive credit.
